I’m a Brit living in Holland. I largely earned my living translating – mainly Dutch films – into English. That really is intercultural communication!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Translation is an art, and this homepage proved a useful survey of my work as a translator. It includes a list of many films which I translated, links to all kinds of handy places and services.\u00a0 I also help write and market\u00a0Spot<\/a>, the ideal subtitling system for PCs. Version 3.5 soon made its name as the ideal companion to subtitle translators and editors… Version 4.4 also featured video caching so you can work from video on the hard disk, as well as a graphic audio bar and video thumbnails. 5.0 was a step further, and now we have reached the milestone Spot 6 with many enhancements including overlaying subtitles on video files.\u00a0 Of you want to rent Spot, see here<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My translation of Toon Tellegen earned me the\u00a0Marsh Award for Children’s Fiction in Translation<\/a>\u00a0in 2011.\u00a0His animal tales are\u00a0\u2018A delight for anyone lucky enough to read them.\u2019\u00a0\u2013 The Bookseller\u00a0\u00a0\u2018Toon Tellegen’s ‘The Squirrel’s Birthday and Other Parties’ and ‘Letters to Anyone and Everyone’ are, quite simply, two of the loveliest and most charming collections of stories I have EVER had the pleasure of reading.\u2019\u00a0\u2013 Alison Morris, Publishers Weekly\u00a0Jury report: ‘Martin Cleaver’s translation captures Tellegen’s richly imagined world and the distinctive characters and poetic voices in it and is a worthy winner…’<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table><\/figure>\n\n\n\n
